Técnico admitted that the arrival of new investors dictated the non-continuity at the helm of the Azores
Mário Silva admitted this Saturday the departure of the technical command of Santa Clara, regretting that the direction of the Azoreans has retreated in the renewal of the contract for the next season in the Bwin League.
During the press conference after the 4-0 defeat at Sporting, in the 34th and final round of the championship, Mário Silva stressed that he had “total openness and availability to renew”, having even concluded a verbal agreement for the same.
“When I give my word, I really do. I honored my word until today. A week ago we reached an agreement and it only remained to formalize it, with the signature of the president. Until today, he has not signed new investors, whose objective was to bring in a new coach. This is probably why the signature of the president is never appeared”, accused the 45-year-old coach from Porto.
The helmsman of the island formation revealed that it is not easy to see such news, but assured that he was explaining the true version of the facts: “Whoever says the opposite is lying. It’s a surprise for me,” added the former footballer.
Mário Silva thanked the players, the technical team, all the departments of the club and the supporters, guaranteeing that he will keep them in his heart “forever” and highlighting the seventh place in the ranking – “the second best in history of the club” – and also the home unbeaten record, finishing this second round unbeaten in São Miguel.
“We didn’t end the season the way we wanted but, with so much instability and difficulty, lagging wages and prize money, to finish in seventh place, I believe is like a title won. I will keep Santa Clara in my heart forever”, reinforced the coach.
The coach took the team in the middle of the season and played a total of 18 matches, during which he won five, drew nine and lost four, including one in the League Cup semi-finals, after completing the Bwin League. in seventh place, with 40 points added.
