A BOLA – FPF and Fernando Santos guarantee that the coach “does not owe a penny” (FPF)

The Portuguese Football Federation and Fernando Santos issued a joint statement early this Friday morning in which they guarantee that the national coach’s tax situation is regularized, denying any debt and guaranteeing that neither the FPF nor Fernando Santos have “withheld or deceived”

information regarding their contractual relationship with the tax administration or any other authority, having always fully and punctually declared all payments / income arising from this relationship”, thus reacting to news from Expresso, which argues that the tax administration requires the payment from the coach of 4.5 million euros.

According to what emerges from the statement, the procedure in progress before the arbitration tribunal was initiated by the national coach after settling the amounts claimed by the tax authorities, and now Fernando Santos is awaiting the outcome of the procedure.

“Following the title of this Friday, May 13, 2022 edition of Jornal Expresso, the Portuguese Football Federation and Eng. Fernando Santos is here to communicate and clarify the following;

1. The Portuguese Football Federation and Eng. Fernando Santos cannot help but regret the flagrant and manifestly truncated violation of the right to fiscal secrecy from which all taxpayers benefit and which, therefore, naturally affects them as well;

2. Without prejudice to the reservation that they legitimately intend to maintain, it is necessary to specify that the assessments promoted by the Tax Administration have been fully and promptly paid, including the corresponding compensatory interest, for which Eng. Fernando Santos not only does not owe a penny to the tax authorities, but he has never ceased to have his tax situation regularized under the law;

3. Under no circumstances the Portuguese Football Federation or Eng. Fernando Santos has hidden or distorted information regarding his contractual relationship with the tax administration or any other authority, having always fully and punctually declared all payments / income arising from this relationship.

4. The discrepancy between the tax office and Eng. Fernando Santos, translated into settlements already fully paid, will be decided by an arbitral tribunal, under the terms of the law, awaiting with serenity and confidence the development of the respective arbitration process;

5. In the event that the request for arbitration is granted, in confidence, the right to full reimbursement of sums paid shall apply. »
