A BOLA – Two candidates for the elections (Académica)

Miguel Ribeiro and Pedro Roxo are the two candidates for the presidency of Académica for the June 4 elections.

The two lists were submitted at the end of the day on Friday, after the deadline provided for in the notice of meeting prepared by the Bureau of the General Assembly.

In the case of Miguel Ribeiro, who leads the C list, and who bears the designation “Académica com futuro”, it is a name also well known in the academic world, since he was general director of training in Briosa between 2012 and 2016, when the students were chaired by José Eduardo Simões.

Speaking to A BOLA, the 51-year-old lawyer explains the reasons for his candidacy. “We will try to recover Académica, stabilizing it, so that the club can regain sporting success. Basically, get back to your story. La Liga 3 is not at all the place for Académica. We meet this challenge with a true spirit of mission, so that it is an academic with a future. This reality does not correspond to the academic dimension. And if we remember that precisely today we are celebrating 10 years of winning the Portuguese Cup, then the current situation is really very worrying. We want to create the conditions for Académica to fill all of its members and supporters with pride,” he said.

It should also be added that in this list C, Fernando Barata Alves is the candidate for the presidency of the board of directors of the general assembly, António Preto is the candidate for the supervisory board and Luís Neves is the number one of the board academic.

With regard to Pedro Roxo, it is about the re-election of the current president who, let us remember, has been in office since 2017. Now, and even after the club’s descent into Liga 3, the student leader does not give up not ship and presents a new perspective: the entry of a group of investors, presented at the end of the season, and which promises to be the basis for a possible change of corporate model, from SDUQ to SAD, which logically requires the approval of the shareholders at the General Meeting convened for this purpose.

Pedro Roxo presents himself on the D list, which has the slogan “Académica com vida”, and at the time of his re-election, A BOLA has assumed what he intends to do in the new mandate, in case he is the winner of the vote. “We have the responsibility, before Académica and its members, to defend our project and to restructure the club definitively. We assume the moment is not positive, but we are here to be part of the solution. The question of a possible change of business model will always depend on the partners, and we will continue to inform the partners about this project of ours”, he concluded.

From list D, and as candidates for the remaining governing bodies, João Paulo Pinto Mendes is a candidate for the board of the general assembly, Pedro Peão for the supervisory board, Horácio Antunes being the number one of the academic board.
