The deadline to complete the forensic audit of Benfica’s SAD has suffered yet another ‘setback’. According to the eagles, it “is in progress and is not expected to be completed until the end of this year”. Rui Costa, at the time a candidate for the club’s presidency, obtained in October 2021 an audit
which would have its final result at the end of the indicated month. “In July 2021, Benfica SAD became aware of the existence of a so-called ‘red card’ process, in which acts allegedly committed by Luís Filipe Ferreira Vieira while he was Chairman of the Board of administration of Benfica SAD, are under investigation, although not in this capacity. Benfica SAD does not assume the quality of target or defendant in the aforementioned process. In this context, Benfica SAD has requested a medical audit -extensive legal to analyze whether any conduct has been detrimental to its interests, with a view, within the applicable legal framework, ascertain all responsibilities and react accordingly.This forensic audit is in progress and is not expected to be completed before the end of this year,” reads the prospectus for the bond issue.
In January of this year, Rui Costa returned to address the subject to contextualize the process. “We have extended the audit to all 55 contracts that the prosecution has in hand. I will be relentless in this process, leaving no one in doubt,” he said.
