BOLA – Alverca wins UD Leiria and will compete for a place in Ligue 2 with Covilhã (Liga 3)

Alverca beat UD Leiria, 2-1, in a match referencing the second leg of the La Liga 3 promotion stage play-offs, which took place this Sunday afternoon, at the Estádio Municipal Dr. Magalhães Pessoa , in Leiria, and which was marked by a new attendance record in the youngest competition in Portuguese football: 15,071.

After the draw of the first leg (1-1), Leiriense’s advantage for this away goal began to fade after 7 minutes, when Gustavo Klismahn, from the penalty spot (for lack of Kuca on Ronaldo Rodrigues), opened the trump to the people of Ribatejo. Shortly after, at 17′, Ricardo Rodrigues, with a cross shot in the left corner of José Costa’s goal, raised the tone for the team led by Algiers.

The Leirienses’ response came shortly after the half-hour mark, when Kikas, after some excellent individual work inside the box, fired for the 1-2.

There was still plenty of time to play, that’s a fact, but the Unionist team still needed to score two goals to move on. The Ribatejo team managed to control the momentum of the local team and thus obtained a precious advantage that allows them to continue dreaming of climbing to Liga 2. The decision will come from yet another play-off, this time against Covilhã , an emblem that ranks 16th in the Liga 2 standings.
