BOLA – Argentina move to TAD against FIFA decision (World Cup 2022)

The Argentine Federation (AFA) announced on Monday that it will seize the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAD) against FIFA. At stake, the decision of the organization to have confirmed the performance of the match between Brazil and Argentina, the qualification for the 2022 World Cup, which was interrupted by the entry into the field of the Brazilian authorities.

The AFA had already lodged a first complaint with the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, which was rejected. Faced with this situation, the Argentinian officials decided to move to the TAD to prevent the match from taking place, claiming that the burden of the events rests on the Brazilian authorities.

It is recalled that the match, which started on September 5, 2021, was interrupted a few minutes after kick-off. At that time, the Federal Police of Brazil were going to the field to detain Argentine players who had falsified health questionnaires to enter the country, then in force as a means of containing the pandemic.

Both teams, it should be said, secured qualification for the 2022 World Cup. Brazil finished in first place with 45 points, six ahead of second-placed Argentina.
