ADespite scoring 24 goals in all competitions, this season Manchester United must look for a striker different from Cristiano Ronaldo’s characteristics for the 2022/23 season, Red Devils manager Ralf Rangnick still believes.
“Cristiano is not a central striker, nor does he want to play in that position. It is obvious that the club needs two new strikers who offer more quality and more options to the German team, in statements reproduced by the daily AS.
“Two forwards. Two modern forwards, not necessarily wingers. If you look at international football, there are hardly any big teams left that still play with two forwards. Most play with three or a false nine,” added Ranknick.
The clearest example the German found was in the two main Premier League title contenders, Liverpool and Manchester City: “If you look closely, each of those teams has five or six great quality strikers. Gabriel Jesus didn’t play much until four weeks. Now he does it regularly. Look how many attacking players they have, and if they play in the center or as a winger. Is Jack Grealish a striker or a winger? They are all strikers who can play in different positions. They can change, they can rotate. We don’t have many players like that,” he added.
