Dispute over the delivery of documents
Trump must pay a fine of $110,000
Because Trump does not provide documents about his company’s assets, a court orders him to make forced payments. These would be overturned – instead he would have to pay a $110,000 fine. Nevertheless, the former American president cannot avoid the publication of the documents.
In a lawsuit for disclosure of documents, a New York court overturned an injunction against former US President Donald Trump for contempt of court. The “New York Times” and broadcasters CNN and CNBC unanimously reported that Judge Arthur Engoron had imposed a fine of 110,000 dollars (nearly 105,000 euros). Trump’s lawyers also had until May 20 to provide information about the search for documents that New York Attorney General Letitia James had requested under threat of criminal prosecution. Otherwise, the order will be reinstated, including a fine of $10,000 a day for contempt of court.
Against the backdrop of civil investigations by the Democratic Attorney General against Republican Trump’s corporate empire for possibly fraudulent business practices. According to James, Trump and the Trump Organization used fraudulent and misleading financial reporting to gain economic advantage. It is also about the suspicion that Trump’s company gave false information about the value of real estate. Trump’s company denies the allegations.
CNBC reported that Trump’s attorneys said they could not locate documents requested by James. A New York judge decided in mid-February in civil proceedings that the 75-year-old ex-president and his two children should be interrogated within 21 days. Trump – who sees himself as the victim of a “witch hunt” – is taking legal action against the decision.
Donald Trump is the founder of the Trump Organization, his two sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump are the vice presidents of the business conglomerate, which is mainly active in the real estate sector. At the same time, criminal investigations against Trump and his empire are also underway in New York.
