San Francisco Elon Musk wants to take over the short message service Twitter. Now he has spoken publicly about the project for the first time – after its $43 billion takeover bid aired.

“It’s not a way to make money. My strong intuitive feeling is that a public platform that enjoys maximum trust and is inclusive for a wide audience is extremely important,” said Musk Thursday.

“So it’s about the future of civilization, the economics don’t matter,” the 50-year-old said at the TED 2022 conference in Vancouver. The algorithm behind Twitter must be made public, he demanded.

Musk also announced that it should be possible to edit posts on the platform later. This feature should only be available for a limited time after a tweet is posted. Additionally, the change should also reset the number of likes and retweets.
