Portugal make their European Under-17 Championship debut next Tuesday against Scotland in the first round of Group D, which also included Sweden and Denmark. With the aim of advancing to the next stage of the competition, the national team has the goal well guarded by Diogo Fernandes, an FC Porto player who is traveling to Israel with ambition.
“The team has been focused for a week. We are working to fully enter the European Championship. Our biggest concern at the moment is to face the first game well, get the victory and pass the group stage. In this Europe, there will be no weak teams. All the teams have gone through the elite round, which means that they are up to it,” the goalkeeper pointed out, in statements to Rádio Renascença.
“Portugal participates in all competitions with the aim of winning. At the moment we are concentrating on getting through the group stage, but the ultimate goal is to win the European Championship,” he admitted.
Porto’s current goalkeeper Diogo Costa has also joined the main team. “Of course, I try to follow the same path. There are coincidences, like the fact that he won the Euro under 17, played for FC Porto… And, as he succeeded, I hope to achieve it too”, declared the young star, posing as an admirer of his namesake. “He is a goalkeeper with whom I identify a lot. At world level, I like Ederson because he is very complete, he plays well with his feet and between the posts he is also very strong.
