LE BALLON – Gueye will have to explain his refusal to play in a rainbow jersey (Paris Saint-Germain)

The National Council of Ethics (CNE) of the French Football Federation (FFF) sent a letter to Idrissa Gueye asking him for an explanation of what happened against Montpellier on Saturday.

The PSG player would have refused to wear the jersey worn by the champion of France – in the colors of the rainbow – on a day of the fight against homophobia.

“If these are baseless rumours, put an end to them. For example, we invite you to accompany your message with a photo of you wearing the shirt in question. Or the rumors are true. There, we ask you to become aware of the extent of your action and of the very serious fault that you have committed ”: this will be, according to L’Équipe, part of the text of the CNE.

This body of the FFF assumes the “fight against discrimination”, which would have been flouted by the athlete born in Senegal, where being homosexual is punishable by one to five years in prison.

Macky Sall, president of this African country, supported Gueye, saying that “his religious convictions must be respected”.

Kouayté and Sarr, his teammates, are also supportive of the midfield; Crystal Palace and Watford, clubs to which they are linked, condemn any type of discrimination. In the case of the second, which has a gay honorary president – the musician Elton John – some supporters have called for the dismissal of the player.
