“Sporting Clube de Portugal has activated the option to buy the pass of Pedro Porro, who for the past two seasons has played for the Club on loan from Manchester City FC. The Spanish international is now definitely Leão and has signed a contract until 2025, having remained with a termination clause of 45 million euros”, reads the press release published by the lions.
We recall that the Spanish player was loaned for two seasons by Manchester City, who arrived at Alvalade at the start of the 2020/21 season. The agreement included a purchase option for an amount of 8.5 million euros, the same as that activated by Sporting CP.
Since joining Sporting CP, Pedro Porro has been a vital part of the restructuring of the lions squad, being a leading figure in all four titles the green and whites have won in the past two years – a national championship, two league cups and a Supercup. Note that it was his solitary goal during the 2020/2021 season against Sporting de Braga that won the club one of the League Cups. In all, Porro played 72 games with a lion on his chest, scoring 9 goals and making 10 assists.
“I’m very happy. When I arrived I knew I was coming to a big club, but I didn’t expect to have conquered what I conquered in those two years and to have created the family, the group strong, which we have created and which is in sight: we have played well and we have won titles”, declared the player at the time of the signing of the contract which binds him to Sporting CP until 2025.
With this purchase of Manchester City, Sporting CP secure their second signing for the 2022/2022 season, having signed Dutch centre-back Jeremiah St. only
