After a fantastic season at Paços de Ferreira, Josué returned to FC Porto determined to win, not least because he had his special coach, Paulo Fonseca, who revived him in the furniture capital. He was 22 years old and had a prosperous future ahead of him. It was 2013/14, the midfielder played 35 games, scored 5 goals and provided 10 assists, a very valuable income snatched from a failed season for the Dragons. Lopetegui arrived and everything changed… Josué found himself loaned to Bursaspor Turks.
Away from Dragão since, he returned to Portugal in 2015/16 and helped steal a Portuguese Cup from FC Porto, scoring in the Jamor final for SC Braga. Despite the distances and the circumstances, love for the Invicta club has been strong since Warsaw, brought back to the blue and white cause by Sérgio Conceição.
“Maybe I could be at FC Porto, maybe not! I don’t think much about the past. The inevitable happened. Now that’s my club, of course. I was very happy with the title,” he admits.
“I had already told Yuri Ribeiro, my colleague here at Legia, that we were going to party in Luz. He didn’t believe it. He also warned Rafael Lopes, his father is a fan of Benfica. Being a champion in Luz is not the same as in another stadium, it takes on a particular taste. When FC Porto lost in Braga, I realized it was fate. Here I was the only one celebrating! And in what way”, says Josué, extolling his admiration for the passionate mastery of Sérgio Conceição, concerning the return of the mystical.
“It wasn’t a little, he gave it his all! I watch with great pride. FC Porto is doing very well, they have a great team, very well managed and with great players. Sérgio feels the club, feels what it’s like to be FC Porto. There are many who have been there who have said this but did not know or imagine the meaning. He has transmitted that since he arrived, ”he says.
