the court postpones the hearing again

In the dispute with the Milan striker, Sporting will receive an amount of around 20 million euros

The Milan court has again postponed, to a date yet to be defined, the hearing to decide on the seizure of part of Rafael Leão’s salary for the benefit of Sporting, which won a lawsuit against the player at TAD. This Tuesday, the Portuguese striker’s lawyers presented a new argument which led the judges to suggest a pause for reflection.

The story dates back to 2018 when the player moved to Lille, citing just cause to unilaterally end the lions, after the attack on Alcochete Academy. However, before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, the French emblem was held jointly and severally liable for the payment of the compensation due to the lions (the amount of which will still be determined by FIFA), which the Portuguese TAD, in the conviction of Rafael Leão because he did not find grounds for unilateral termination, he set it at 16.5 million euros, a value which, plus interest, now exceeds 20 million euros.

At the moment, the player and Milan are negotiating the renewal of the current contract. Leão is tied with the Serie A leader until 2024, but the Rossoneri want the player, already one of the team’s figures, to stay at the club for a few more seasons. The Portuguese international is indispensable in Stefano Pioli’s strategy and has become the figure of the team with goals and assists. Milan is one point away from winning the title of Italian champion and this postponement advocated by the Italian referee is providential for the player to focus on the last match of the championship. On Sunday, the team plays against Sassuolo and can seal the title eleven years later.
