Forbes magazine unveiled the top 10 highest paid athletes in the world on Thursday. And there’s a novelty in mind, with Lionel Messi taking over from mixed martial arts fighter Connor McGregor.
Messi, who left Barcelona last summer for PSG, has earned €124.5m (gross) in the last 12 months. Although he earns less in Paris in terms of wages, the Argentina international has increased his sponsorship income.
This ranking includes earnings in salaries, sponsorships and rewards between May 1, 2021 and May 1, 2022.
Second on the list is basketball player LeBron James of the Lakers, with a gain of 116.1 million euros. In third place is Cristiano Ronaldo, with 110.2 million euros.
