V. Guimarães reaches the finish line as King of Minho

In the championship between the six Minho teams, V. Guimarães scored 21 points, beating the Europeans Braga (4th) and Gil Vicente (5th). V. Guimarães has won seven of the ten games he has played with rivals Minho, having even won all the games played at the Estádio D. Afonso Henriques. The last, with Gil Vicente, was decisive.

V. Guimarães ended the championship beating Vicente (5-0) and winning the “title” of Minho champion. In the private championship between the six teams in the region, the Victorians overtook Braga (4th) and Gil Vicente (5th), after winning all the games against D. Afonso Henriques.

In the ten games played against Braga, Gil Vicente, Famalicão, Vizela and Moreirense, Vitória scored 21 points, four more than Braga and five more than Gil Vicente. Moreirense and Famalicão added 11 points, while Vizela picked up six.

Minho’s title of champion was only decided in the last round, when V. Guimarães received Gil Vicente behind closed doors. A triumph guaranteed the gilistas first place in this private championship, allowing them to finish with the same 18 points and with an advantage in direct confrontation.

National champion FC Porto, on the other hand, scored 91 points, 11 more than in 2020/21: he broke the league points record, had the best attack (86 goals), the best defense (22 goals), more shots and more possession. In the year of all historical milestones, the Dragons set a new national record of unbeaten in the competition – 58 consecutive games without defeat -, equaling the maximum in Europe for the greats, which belonged to Milan (between 1991 and 93 ).

FC Porto will attempt the double again on Sunday. The Portuguese Cup final comes a week after Tondela fell for the first time in their history, after seven years in the Bwin League. The Beira team repeats the example of Beira-Mar, in 1998/99, and is also present in Jamor the year it leaves the division.
